| Résumé : |
From where do they come from, those sea nomads: the Badjos/Sama? Mysterious and unknown, they live on all the seas of South East Asia (Indonesia, Philipines and Malaysia). We know nothing about their history or their origin. The most fascinating aspect is the Badjos' original way of life: life in the canoe, even though most of the Badjos live in houses on stilts, built far from the shores.
The Badjos (more or less 500.000 persons) have a particular language and a unique culture. Their uncommon way of life comes from a perfect adaptation to the sea environment. Sedentarization processes appear to have jeopardized their future. Poets of the Seas, the Badjos are indeed a vanishing population.... |
